When Is The Best Time To Get A Chemical Peel?
by Kristie Foushee
Summer is finally over. The air is cooler, and you are probably spending more time indoors. And so, during the Fall and Winter seasons is the perfect time to refresh your skin with a chemical peel! This treatment exfoliates away the damage to your skin from summer sun exposure, acne, wrinkles and enlarged pores.
Am I a Good Candidate for a Facial Chemical Peel?
Chemical peels are designed to rejuvenate your skin by removing the outer layers of damaged skin, revealing healthier, more hydrated skin underneath. A chemical peel may be a great option if you have any of the following concerns:
- Sun spots or hyperpigmentation (brown spots)
- Uneven skin tone or blotchiness
- Melasma
- Skin with rough texture or wide pores
- Active acne breakouts or acne pitting and old acne scars
- Oily skin
- Fine lines or crow’s feet
By choosing a facial peel during the Fall and Winter months, we protect your baby skin brought up to the surface. The youthful glow and even pigment, tone, and texture that you enjoy after your chemical peel will last longer when protected from the sun’s harmful UV rays.
When Should I Avoid Getting a Chemical Peel?
In some cases, it may be best to delay getting a facial peel. Examples include if you are pregnant or nursing, have an active herpes outbreak (cold sore), or are battling a seasonal cold or the flu.
We also recommend rescheduling your chemical peel if you have a surprise social engagement, recent laser treatment (within the last 3 weeks), or an unexpected sunburn during a tropical winter vacation. We absolutely do not recommend getting a chemical peel when you plan to be out for extended periods in the sunlight.
At Tannan Plastic Surgery, we are always here to help you achieve your unique aesthetic goals. We carefully discuss your skin care needs and help determine if a chemical peel is right for you before customizing a safe and effective treatment solution.
