Mommy Makeover Trends to Watch for in 2025
The Mommy Makeover has become a popular choice for women looking to regain their pre-baby bodies. While the core components of a Mommy Makeover procedure—Breast Augmentation, Tummy Tuck, and Liposuction—remain constant, the specific desires of women are evolving. In 2025, based on our extensive experience caring for moms, we anticipate several very specific Mommy Makeover trends in response to what women want and need for their bodies.
Trend #1: The Rise of Breast Reduction
One of the most significant shifts in the Mommy Makeover is the increasing popularity of Breast Reduction Surgery. This shift is driven by several factors:
- Body Proportion: Women are seeking a more balanced and proportionate figure, often opting to downsize their breasts to complement their overall body shape. No one wants the overdone look and ready to move forward with a more natural look and subtlety is key. The fashion world is taking notice that women are reclaiming their bodies! Dresses have slimmer busts and this is because women are dressing for themselves, not the male gaze.
- Physical Comfort: Larger breasts can lead to neck, back, and shoulder pain. Breast Reduction can alleviate these physical discomforts and improve quality of life. Plus, large breasts can cause unwanted attention at all ages, and literally get in your way of moving through the world. Whether large breasts are in your way when you work or when you work out, at Tannan Plastic Surgery we are doing more and more Breast Reduction procedures every year to help you look and feel your best.
- Confidence Boost: A more proportionate and comfortable bust can significantly boost self-esteem and body image. When you can run, play with your kids, or workout again because you don’t have large breasts causing pain in your way, this directly impacts your mental health. It is physically challenging to exercise with large breasts, and a Breast Reduction can open up so many opportunities that you missed out on because of larger breasts.
Mommy Makeover Trend #2: The Allure of Natural-Looking, Petite Implants
While large, voluptuous breasts dominated the scene in the 1990s and early 2000’s, there’s a growing trend in Mommy Makeovers towards a more natural and understated aesthetic. Women are increasingly choosing petite, natural-looking breast implants for the following reasons:
- Subtle Enhancement: Petite implants can subtly enhance the breasts without creating an overdone or obviously fake look. You can get that slight upper pole fill, where you improve the volume of your breast up top, without upsizing your cup size by two cups. If you want to go braless with backless dresses, we can’t go putting in a D-cup implant. Our all-female team will help you find a tasteful size to suit your body proportion while also providing volume where you want it most.
- Youthful Appearance: A more natural-looking breast shape can contribute to a youthful and refreshed look. Larger implants are heavier, and can make you look more matronly or older. It also may mean having to wear a larger dress size, just to fit the bust. Firm and perky breasts stay higher when they are not too heavy. That is why you will not catch our team telling you “bigger is better.” We guide you to stay true to your breast foundation to look natural and youthful.
- Versatility: Petite implants are versatile and can be tailored to suit a wide range of body types and preferences. The breast implant companies like Motiva and Natrelle have responded to popular demand for smaller implant sizes than were available 20 years ago. This is in direct response to your needs and preferences to look natural and have a more subtle enhancement so you can play it up in certain clothing or you could go braless in the summer.
Trend #3 is The Tummy Tuck: More Than Skin Deep
The Tummy Tuck remains a crucial component of the Mommy Makeover, but the reasons behind it are becoming more nuanced. Beyond addressing loose skin and excess fat, women are increasingly focusing on the following:
- Diastasis Recti Repair: This condition, where the abdominal muscles separate with weight gain, hormonal changes, or during pregnancy. Diastasis leads to a protruding belly that moves out when your belly is relaxed, and then moves in when you tighten your core and contract. A Tummy Tuck can effectively repair the muscles and restore abdominal strength and definition. Liposuction is not powerful enough to address your muscles (if they are partially responsible for the bulging belly).
- C-Section Scar Revision: The procedure can significantly improve the appearance of c-section scars, reducing their visibility and restoring a smoother abdominal contour. The C-Section Shelf that hangs over the pubic region can be frustrating under clothing. You can get rashes, chafing or skin irritation at the scar. A tummy tuck will cut the scar tissue out and redrape the skin so it is smoother and the shelf is removed while your normal contour is restored.
- Addressing the “Menopause Belly”: The “Menopause Belly” is finally being talked about! When our hormones shift with aging, it almost is as if the loose skin and a protruding belly showed up overnight. A Tummy Tuck can effectively address this concern and restore a flatter, more toned abdomen. Regardless of whether you had pregnancies or not, the menopause belly is a real phenomenon and deserves to be treated so you don’t feel self-conscious about your belly with everything else happening during menopause. Be gentle with yourself during this major transition in your life.
In the first 2 photos, take note of the dark lines that are marked on this real patient of Tannan Plastic Surgery. They show the rectus diastasis in this patient and my anticipated repair. I use a surgical marker to indicate where I plan to place my sutures for the diastasis recti repair, which restores your six-pack or rectus abdominis muscles. Look at all that space that needs to heal and seal up between the skin and fat above and the underlying fascia. This is the space we close down with progressive tension sutures.
The last 2 photos show this on-the-table immediate postop result. The dimples in her abdominal skin indicate where the progressive tension sutures are located in this same patient from the first pictures. These are her quilting sutures, where the top “fabric” or skin and subcutaneous fat are anchored to the bottom layer of “fabric” in this case, the fascia overlying the rectus abdominis muscles. Next you will see a photo of the skin and fat that is cut out from the belly button down to the pubic hair region called the mons pubis. Scroll down to see her full before and after photos.
Below you will find the before and after photos of the same patient shown throughout this blog post. Compare her intraoperative photos and the immediate, on-the-table results with dimples from above to her final after photos.
