Morpheus8 Microneedling Treatment: All you Need to Know
Morpheus8 Microneedling is a proven technique to tighten skin on your face, your neck, your arms, legs, belly or back. Are you considering Microneedling to refresh your look? We wrote this guide for you. Here we discuss what you can expect in the first week after Morpheus8 Microneedling. Here are a few key Do’s and Don’t’s to give you the best possible outcome. Read on for more details.
Planning for your Morpheus8 Treatment
In the 1-3 Days before your Morpheus8, avoid smoking, vaping and/or consuming alcohol.
What to Do on Your Morpheus8 Day
Be sure to shower as usual, and do not apply cream, lotion, or any other products to the treatment area. We want to maximize your outcome and don’t want chemicals in the way or being pushed deeper into your tissues. Most importantly, do not wear makeup the day you come for your treatment if we are treating your face.
What you can expect after Morpheus8 Treatment
When you walk out the door after your treatment, you will look and feel like you have a moderate sunburn. The redness will go away within hours, so don’t worry! Your skin may also temporarily feel warm and tighter than usual. These are all to be expected initially after treatment. The petroleum ointment we give you as well as over-the-counter allergy medications will help soothe your healing skin.
If we treat the area around your eyes, you will notice a little edema (swelling) and possible bruising.
You may notice small needle marks on the treatment area, but don’t worry! They will disappear in about three days. If you’ve had a more aggressive treatment, they should be gone after approximately a week.
Morpheus8 Aftercare Instructions
In the first few hours immediately after Morpheus8 treatment wash the treated area with your ZO Balancing Cleansing Emulsion and lukewarm (not hot!) water. Apply the Hydrating Crème as often as you need to soothe your skin. Make sure to cleanse your face and apply the Hydrating Crème before going to bed or three hours after your procedure. No scrubbing the skin, no exfoliating, and no picking at your skin. Pat your skin dry with a clean towel.
If you prefer White Petroleum to the Crème, now is the time to use it. Also make sure to use clean pillowcases and sheets on this freshly treated delicate skin. Take over the counter anti-allergy medications if you are noticing itching.
Day One
The day after your Morpheus8 treatment please begin using the ZO Accelerated Firming Serum we provided for you. This serum is specially formulated to be absorbed through the new microchannels and has been shown to enhance your Morpheus8 results and support skin elasticity and firmness. Aftercare also involves continuing your skincare routine of using your ZO Balancing Cleansing Emulsion and Hydrating Crème (or White Petroleum) we gave you. If we treated your face, no makeup today, no retinol, and no other products like hydroquinone or alpha and beta hydroxy acids today.
Avoid direct sun exposure to optimize your results. There are no restrictions on bathing. Do avoid scrubbing or causing any trauma to the treated areas.
Day Two
You should start using SPF 30 broad spectrum mineral sunscreen like your Elta MD sunscreen after you cleanse your face. Avoid chemical sunscreens made from octisalate, oxybenzone, homosalate, avobenzone, and similar ingredients.
Continue to avoid activities that expose you to the sun (e.g. swimming and tanning beds). Also, avoid hot tubs, saunas, going to the gym, and other activities that make you sweat as they may cause adverse reactions.
To maximize proper healing and minimize the risk of swelling and/or bruising, also avoid the following: perfume, smoking, alcohol, and medications such as Aspirin, Ibuprofen, Naprosyn, Voltaren Gel, Mobic, Celebrex.
Day Three to Thirteen
You may start wearing makeup 48 hours after Morpheus8 treatment to your face. Continue to cleanse your face daily and then apply your sunscreen. We recommend waiting until you are two weeks after your treatment before resuming the whole skincare routine.
Day Fourteen
You may restart your regular skin care regimen. We recommend resuming your retinols to optimize the treatment at this point. This means you can restart your ZO Wrinkle and Texture Repair, or Refissa and certainly now is the time to resume your Hydroquinone treatments (Pigment Control Cremes). Reach out to us if you are not sure about when to restart your skincare products.
What’s Next? Weeks Later following your Morpheus8 Treatment
Morpheus8 aftercare also involves a follow-up with Kristie Foushee, RN. Don’t forget to see your provider during weeks 4-6 time for an assessment. Multiple treatments spaced out over a few months may be required to achieve the desired response. You will notice immediate as well as long term improvements in your skin as early as four weeks after the treatment. It takes four weeks for your skin cells to turn over so most people will begin to see increased results after this time.
