3 Summer Skin Care Tips Today to Prevent Wrinkles Tomorrow
Whether you are in Raleigh, North Carolina or Seattle, Washington — this summer is a record-breaker! We all know exposure to the sun can cause skin cancer, sunburn and wrinkles. How do you modify your summer skin care routine to keep up with this scorcher of a summer? Read on for details!
Summer Skin Care Tip #1: Vitamin C
Vitamin C is not just an immune booster. It’s also a critical antioxidant that deserves some extra credit when it comes to protecting you from the sun’s harmful rays! Vitamin C, especially when combined with your regular sunscreen, gives you added protection from UV rays that cause skin cancer, wrinkles and sunburn. Now that is something to celebrate. You can apply a Vitamin C serum with your sunscreen or blend in the concentrates with your moisturizer. Ask me about options next time you are in the office.
Summer Skin Care Tip #2: Timing is Everything
Daytime is when you are exposed to UV rays, so your morning routine should include applying sunscreen and the antioxidants like Vitamin C to enhance your sun protection. At night, as you luxuriate in your time of rest, so should your skin! Night is prime time for moisturizing and using products to boost collagen production. These include retinol-based medications and peptide serums. Don’t forget, some of these products can increase your sensitivity to the sun so keep that sunscreen handy during the day to complete the skin-care regimen. Often stronger (and more effective) products require a prescription, so talk to your doctor as you find a regimen that works for you.
Summer Skin Care Tip #3: Prevention is the Best Medicine
Wrinkles form in part from repeated muscle activity over time. Regular botox (and other neurotoxins like dysport and xeomin) in your 30s can prevent future deep wrinkling that comes along in your 40s and 50s. The botox stops you from wrinkling your forehead and the area around your eyes regularly. In a previous post, we also talk about how botox helps prevent that tired and angry look. After consistent treatments you need less and less medication to weaken those muscles causing wrinkles. Don’t get me wrong here – we are not talking about a frozen look. You can achieve a natural look with botox, it just needs to be done right! That is why we recommend seeking the medical advice of a board certified plastic surgeon.
